Now offering COVID-19 Antibody Testing

Tampa Urgent Care is now offering COVID-19 Antibody Testing to patients who believe they may have been exposed to COVID-19 in the past.  This test is only applicable to patients NOT exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, shortness of breath, cough)

What is the Antibody test?

The test detects immunoglobulin M (IgM) and immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies.

IgM is usually the first, specific antibody type generated by the body in response to infection. Your body usually generates these antibodies as its first line of defense against a foreign virus and can develop as soon as 3-5 days.

IgG antibody is a protein that the body produces in the late stages of infection (possibly 21 days or greater) and may remain for up to months and possibly years after a person has recovered.

IgM and IgG fight infections by targeting specific antigens on the surface of the SARS-nCoV-2 virus.

Antibody tests for COVID-19 cannot confirm the presence of the virus in your system at present day. It can only tell whether you have been exposed in the past or if you have never been exposed to SARS-CoV-2.

What to expect from the test?

  • The test informs you of COVID-19 antibodies in your system.  This does not necessarily mean you are immune to the virus

  • The test for antibodies is performed in CLIA High Complexity specialty lab.  Clinical sensitivity and specificity for this test:

    • Access Medical: Clinical Sensitivity: 95.60%

    • Access Medical: Clinical Specificity: 97.50%

    • Quest Diagnostic: Clinical Sensitivity: 90.00%

    • Quest Diagnostic: Clinical Specificity: 99.00%

  • We provide a Quantitative report, which not only informs of detection, but also quantifies the amount of antibodies detected.

How much does this cost?

We are offering two price options.

Option 1: We have recently partnered with Quest Diagnostics.  The cost for test is processed through patients health insurance.  Patient pays $20 for material cost at the clinic.  The test is processed at Quest Diagnostics.  Quest will bill the health insurance company.  Some health insurance companies are covering the cost.  The patient is encouraged to reach out to their insurance company for coverage. The test from Quest checks only for IgG antibodies.

Option 2: The entire cost is paid by patient.  The cost is $200.  The test is processed by Access Medical Labs.  The test from Access Medical Labs check for IgG and IgM antibodies.  This is a more comprehensive test since it is looking for antibodies that have occurred recently after an infection (IgM) and longterm antibodies (IgG)
